IVF Fertility Treatment

IVF fertility treatment (in vitro fertilization) is the most popular types of fertility treatment because of its high rate of success. In fact according to statistics close to 48,000 babies are born with the help of IVF fertility treatment in the United States alone. This particular procedure is used to help women conceive if they have blocked fallopian tubes or problems when ovulating. It is also considered when the man has a low sperm count.

What Is IVF Fertility Treatment

The physician will instruct you to take a fertility drug that works to stimulate your ovaries during the beginning of your menstrual cycle. This stimulation will help many mature eggs to develop for fertilization. It is not uncommon for many women to also take a synthetic hormone known as Lupron. This hormone is used to keep your body from releasing the eggs too early.

You will need to make frequent trips to your physician’s office so that they can take ultrasound measurements of the ovaries and to monitor your blood hormone levels. They will keep an eye out for when the eggs are mature. Once they are the physician will give you an anesthetic and remove the eggs from your ovaries using a needle that will be inserted into the wall of the vagina. Once removed the physician will combine the eggs with the sperm from your partner inside of a lab.

After only two to five days the fertilized eggs will become balls of cells referred to as an embryo. A few of these embryos will be placed inside of your uterus through a thin catheter that inserted through your cervix. The extra embryos can be frozen for future use.

If the IVF fertility treatment worked then the embryo will plant itself into the wall of the uterine and grow into a baby. It is possible for more than one of the embryos to grow giving the couple multiple babies at once.

IVF Fertility Treatment Success Rate

The age of the woman and the fertility problems are the most common factors when it comes to determining the success rate of IVF fertility treatment. Younger women have better success rates because their eggs are healthier. Average statistics show that there is a 35% chance of a woman to become pregnancy and 28% chance of the woman delivering a baby with each treatment they use.
